The Abey guide to laundry tapware

There’s something so luxurious about having a renovated laundry. All of a sudden you’ll be putting clean clothes in the wash just for an excuse to use your beautiful, practical new space.

To achieve that luxury feeling you’re going to need to design your laundry well, starting with tapware. To help you get started we’ve put together a quick guide.

Match your laundry’s design

Laundry spaces typically aren’t as design-led as kitchen and bathroom spaces but it’s still a good idea to choose a theme and stick with it. You could go for a luxurious, stripped back look with white subway tiles, a wooden bench and a Lucia GooseNeck Laundry Spout. This tap has a beautiful curving neck which looks modern and elegant at the same time.

Or if you’re going for a more industrial look the Lucia SK5-2 pull out spray mixer by Gareth Ashton could be a better option. It comes in a gorgeous brushed metal which looks great against dark green tiles and stainless steel benchtops.

Think about functionality

Your laundry should be first and foremost a functional space. So when you choose tapware, think about what you’re going to be using your laundry sink for. Will it be for getting stains out of clothes, washing the dog, cleaning muddy boots, or all of the above?

With that in mind, consider what features might come in handy. If you’re washing large items (like Fido) then a pull out mixer, which extends to spray wherever you’d like, could come in handy. Or if you’d rather keep it simple the MixMaster MK1 sink mixer is a perfect option, going for just $132 inc GST.

Look at the WELS rating

It’s always worth making an effort to conserve water, especially when you’re renovating your bathroom. To save water (or at least be aware of how much you’re using) pay attention to the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) rating on the tap you’re considering.

This rating, out of six, tells you roughly how much water the tap will use. Six is the highest rating with ratings of four or five being very good. Many Gareth Ashton taps, including the Lucia side level sink mixer have four star ratings.

Consider colour

Most laundry taps are stainless steel, but it’s not your only option. So while you’re choosing take a look at your options for colour and think about what would best suit your space. Abey’s range of taps come in a number of colours, from brushed stainless steel to matte black.
