Tips for choosing the right bathroom fittings for your family bathroom
Your family bathroom probably gets a lot of traffic. It might have to deal with several pre-school or pre-work showers, teenagers who hog the mirror and perhaps a dad who spends a little too long on the loo.
But with a few small changes your family bathroom could be so much more user friendly – speeding up those morning traffic jams. To help you get started we’ve put together seven tips for choosing the right fittings for your family bathroom.
Double vanities
If you’ve got one or two bathrooms in your home, it’s always a good idea to install a double vanity in the family bathroom — perhaps a wide counter with two Gareth Ashton Poco round gloss countertop basins. That way, two family members can use the basins at once and the morning rush will be over twice as fast.
Multiple mirrors (or one large mirror)
Double vanities won’t make a difference unless you’ve also got double mirrors! Go for a large mirror across your entire vanity, two separate mirrors or a three-part folding mirror like the Burlington Arcade Classic if you want to make an impact.
Wall-mounted fixtures
Cleaning the family bathroom can take forever and a day and require plenty of elbow grease. You can make it a little easier by choosing wall-mounted mixers like the Poco wall basin/Bath set. That’s because wall-mounted mixers tend to be easier to clean and don’t accumulate grime like counter-mounted mixers can.
Bath, shower or both?
If you’ve got room for a bath it’s almost always worth getting one. Even if you only use it once a month, there are few better ways to relax than a long hot soak after a day of work. Freestanding baths like the Byron Gloss ClearStone bath are also fantastic for bathing little kids. But if space is tight you might want to go for a shower that can help you achieve that same spa-like feeling, like the Gessi Total Wellness showerhead.
Single mixers for safety
Bathroom mixers with separate hot and cold taps can sometimes be dangerous for little ones. It’s easy for them to turn the hot tap on and burn themselves.
Single mixers, on the other hand, are a little safer. Leave a mixer, like the Vela wallset, on the same pleasantly warm setting and your little ones are much less likely to have an accident.
Plenty of hanging space
How many towels have you got hanging in your family bathroom right now? Chances are there’s some on the ground too. Make sure you can keep your bathroom tidy by including enough hanging space for everyone.
A couple of Gareth Ashton Park Avenue towel rails should do the trick for most family bathrooms.
Wall-mounted accessories
Keeping a family bathroom tidy is a job that never ends. Make it a little easier by wall mounting your accessories – from your toothbrush holder and soap dispenser to your toilet brush. That way less grime will accumulate around them and they’ll never disappear or end up breaking when they’re knocked off the counter top.
