Think outside the basin: 8 ideas for an impactful bathroom sink

When you renovate a bathroom you’ve typically only got a few chances to make a statement with the room’s design. One of those chances is of course the bathroom sink.

There’s more choice than ever when it comes to the humble sink, with countless colours, shapes, sizes and styles to suit any bathroom. To help you choose, here are eight out of the box ideas for installing a sink in your bathroom.

1. The double vanity bathroom sink

Do you live with your partner, spouse or better half? Tired of fighting over the sink in the morning? A double vanity bathroom sink could be the answer.

Simply choose two sinks and install them on a large counter top with either two mirrors or one large mirror. This is particularly effective in large or long bathroom spaces and with low profile bathroom sinks like the Park Avenue Semi Recessed Basin.

2. Feature vessel sinks

Vessel sinks sit on top of your cabinet and often feature striking curved design. They can be a great statement piece in a bathroom, especially when installed on a different colour vanity.

The Barwon ClearStone Gloss Basin is a great example of a vessel style bathroom sink.

3. Pedestal bathroom sinks

When you want your basin to make a real impact your best option might be a freestanding pedestal bathroom sink like the Cono range.

Just make sure you’ve got storage elsewhere in your bathroom.

4. Undermounted sinks

Undermounted sinks sit underneath or flush with the countertop of your vanity so that there’s no lip – just your countertop dropping straight to sink. This creates a modern, minimalist look that lets the rest of your bathroom’s design shine.

Undermount bathroom sinks are also easier to clean than most top mounts.

5. Exposed plumbing

If you’re going for a rustic farmhouse or industrial look, leaving the plumbing of your sink exposed could add to your bathroom’s allure. Your best bet if you’re trying to achieve this look is to buy a sink that’s designed to have exposed plumbing like the Burlington Edwardian Basin and Stand

6. Coloured stainless steel

A coloured stainless steel bathroom sink may seem like a crazy idea, but hear us out. It has all the usual benefits of stainless steel – it’s durable, easy to clean and has antimicrobial properties.

Plus when you choose your colour and shape well, it can look incredible. The Gareth Ashton, Round Eureka Gold is a great example of a coloured stainless steel sink that can elevate any bathroom design.

7. Period piece sinks

Older homes or those with a classic style are perfectly suited to period piece sinks, inspired by yesterday’s timeless design.

The Edwardian 80cm Basin and Stand is a great example with its ornate chrome stand, taps and beautiful china sink.

8. Experiment with shape and size

When choosing a bathroom sink it’s important to keep an open mind and think outside of the basin. Experiment with different shapes, sizes, colours and styles and you might be surprised what you find.
