Small space – big impact: Small laundry design ideas
Small laundries can be tricky to refresh or renovate. These spaces used to be purely functional but today they’re often built as a design statement as well – which can be hard to achieve in a small laundry (but it’s still possible).
Carefully select each fixture and colour and consider the room’s layout and a tiny laundry can have just as much design impact as a larger space. To get you started we’ve taken a closer look at small laundry design and suggested some laundry sinks that could be perfect for your renovation.
Use light colours
When you’re renovating a small space, whether it’s a kitchen or a laundry, light colours are usually best. Go for whites, light blues, greens and pale natural hues rather than blacks, or other dark colours.
Light colours generally make a space feel more open, light and airy which can work wonders in a small laundry. The Chambord Philippe single bowl in fireclay is a great laundry sink option in a clean, bright white.
Make every inch functional
It’s important to make the most of every inch of your small laundry to ensure it’s as functional as possible. For example, you could build a bench with storage, washer and dryer underneath, then cabinetry on top, with a hanger for drying clothes, a space for a laundry basket and a power outlet.
Go for a washer dryer
One of the easiest ways to save space is to simply combine your washer and dryer by instead using a washer-dryer. These are usually the same size as a normal washing machine, giving you plenty of extra space for cabinetry and storage or a larger laundry sink.
Choose a mini sink
If your space is really tiny there are several mini laundry sinks that could help you save space.
For a more utilitarian look and feel you could go with the minimalist but functional Abey lt100 31 litre laundry sink bowl in stainless steel.
Make the sink a statement
Smaller sinks are great in most laundries, but if you need a bigger tub for all those muddy kids clothes you may still be able to make it work. The trick is to make the sink a statement design piece – the centrepiece of your laundry.
Schock’s granite laundry sinks are another great option. They feature a minimalist design and come in four distinct colours, including a warm brown and a concrete shade that looks great in modern laundries.
See for yourself
It can be difficult to judge the look and feel of laundry sinks, fixtures and fittings online or in a catalogue, especially when you’re designing a tight space. The best way to make an informed decision is to visit one of Abey’s selection galleries near you and see all of our laundry sinks, fixtures and fittings in person.
