9 laundry design trends for 2024 and 2025
Need a little inspiration for your laundry renovation? To help you get started we’ve rounded up our 9 favourite laundry design trends for 2024 and 2025.
1. Carrying a look through
Chances are you (or your designer) spent plenty of time creating an aesthetic for your kitchen. So why not carry that look through to your laundry? Using one consistent aesthetic will not only save time – it’ll make your home’s design look consistent and considered.
2. Oversized basins
We love the oversized basin trend in kitchens, but why not your laundry too? An oversized 60 litre bowl like the Chambord Clotaire in Fireclay is a great centrepiece for any laundry renovation (plus it’s extremely practical).
3. Hardwood flooring
The laundry and kitchen are traditionally tiled or vinyl spaces, but we’re seeing plenty with hardwood floors. This material brings a little extra warmth and personality to your laundry or kitchen space – helping you avoid the cold, plain look some laundries tend to have.
4. Minimalist design
Japanese and Scandinavian design are taking over. They’re all about functional, minimalism and natural materials – which we think is a theme that works incredibly well in laundries. We’re talking raw wood benchtops, copper or brass taps, whites and muted colours.
5. Smarter appliances
If you can make your life (and your laundry) easier, why not? New, smart laundry appliances are a must have in any laundry renovation, thanks to their great intelligent features. For example, new LG washers can sense the weight and fabric softness of your load and adjust the wash cycle automatically to reduce clothing wear and ensure a thorough clean. New Miele washing machines have built in detergent dispensers, so instead of spooning or pouring yours in you just push a button. Smart right?
6. Open plan
The average Australian home doesn’t have a separate laundry space, but most have a garage. This is a great space to add a full laundry if you’ve got room – a simple open plan bench along the back or side of your garage with incorporated appliances can be just as good as a separate laundry.
7. The European laundry
More and more Australians are living in apartments and townhouses, which sometimes don’t have space for a dedicated laundry. The solution? European laundries are mini-cupboard laundries that feature all the good stuff dedicated laundries have, in a smaller more compact footprint. And when you’re done with your washing, you can simply close the door and the space is tucked away.
8. Plenty of greenery
One way to add character and charm to your laundry without blowing your budget is to add indoor plants. Just make sure you choose a plant that’s suited to humid indoor environments like:
- Pothos: a lovely lush green hanging plant.
- Peace lily: large green leaves and pure white flowers.
- ZZ plant: tolerates neglect well and has attractive glossy green leaves.
- Snake plant: looks great and converts CO2 to oxygen at night.
Incorporating these can be as simple as popping one on your laundry bench, or having a plant hanging down from an open shelf.
9. Premium fittings and fixtures
Your laundry is most likely a small space, so every detail matters. Make sure you choose your taps, mixers, basins and accessories from a trusted Australian brand known for premium quality.
