10 tips to help you renovate your bathroom on a budget

A bathroom renovation in Australia can cost anything from $16,000 to $75,000 or more. Luckily, if your budget is a little lower there’s still plenty that you can do to improve the look, feel and functionality of your bathroom.

1. Change the colour

A lick of paint on the walls of an old bathroom can do so much to reinvigorate a space. Our tip – avoid dark shades in small bathrooms but don’t be afraid to use a little colour if it matches the rest of your bathroom. 

2. Retile

3. Refurbish and upcycle your vanity

The right mirror can completely change a space and they can be relatively affordable. If you’d like to make your bathroom seem bigger go for a mirror that reaches from your ceiling to your vanity. 

7. Replace the shower curtain

Nothing makes a bathroom feel old and tired more than a ratty shower curtain. Improve your bathroom fast by either changing it or installing frameless glass instead.

8. Improve your lighting

Lighting can make a huge difference. If yours is looking a little dim and dingy, simply get a qualified electrician to install either soft, warm LED downlights or a bathroom feature light to bring your space back to life. 

9. Change select fittings

The fittings in your bathroom are the smaller items like taps, shower heads, towel rails, cupboard handles and toilet roll holders. Updating these doesn’t have to be expensive but combined with a little paint it can make an old bathroom feel brand new. 

10. Change your fixtures

Sometimes, when a bathroom is really dated, the only thing that will fix it is a massive overhaul. In that case you’ll need to change some major fixtures like your toilet, shower, sink and vanity.
